Stunning Northern Lights from last night/early morning in North Pole, Alaska, where Santa Claus (seriously, I'm not kidding) lives. Photos by Maraya Kraft. #Alaska #AlaskaWinter #NorthernLights

My buddy Rob lives in North Pole. "It's not even north of Fairbanks!" he tells me.
in reply to Bill Reese

@reesecommabill That is correct! It's the name of a small city right before you get to Fairbanks. It's kind of neat. There's the Santa Claus House, Santa Claus (the guy literally legally changed his name) and all the Christmas ornaments you can imagine.

These shots are incredible. Suddenly seeing this somewhere is on my bucket list!

Great shots, but the REAL north pole is in Canada :D

"the North Geomagnetic Pole is currently located near 80.8 degrees north by 72.7 degrees west, in Ellesmere Island, Canada."

@ianrogers It's beyond the Canadian Arctic and not part of any nation. It's in the Arctic Ocean. I prefer North Pole, Alaska. 😊

"First things first: Yes, Santa Claus is his legal name. It’s on his government identification, and the mail that arrives at his apartment.

A long time ago, he was called Thomas O’Connor. He doesn’t answer to that name anymore. If someone shouted it in the North Pole Safeway, “I wouldn’t even turn my head,” he says.

This Santa Claus is a 73-year-old medical-marijuana-using, Bernie-supporting vegetarian monk who lives at the poverty line, does not drive and thinks — truth be told — that Christmas is a “crass commercial secular spectacle.”
